Project Hammerhead - A 360° VR Visual Field Enhancement SystemYuval Shubert
In this project we would like to examine the possibility of extending the human field of view to 360 degree by using VR system. (Oculus Rift and Google Cardboard).
First of all, we have made a research on Human Binocular Vision & Computer Graphics.
Then we have developed an algorithm for creating a Stereoscopic Cylindrical 360° Panorama for each eye based on @Paul Bourke articles (http://paulbourke.net).
Finally, we have developed two systems:
1. Adaptive Learning Environment for Oculus-Rift written in C++ using OpenGL library.
- Implement multiple display methods for Stereoscopic 360 Panoramas:
• Uniform and non-uniform sampling.
• Split screen for normal view and extended FOV.
- Using Monocular and Binocular cues, in order to achieve depth perception:
• Comparing elements size.
• Straight line and cyclic movements to improve user orientation.
• An interactive game for training user skills in extended FOV.
2. Unity 3D Games plugin - Plug-n-Play plugin which allow to extend the field of view for any unity3D google Cardboard application. (user is able to control the FOV using the device magnetic sensor)
