Nigeria has established a regulatory framework and committees to oversee modern biotechnology and biosafety. Confined field trials have been conducted for biofortified cassava, cowpea, and sorghum. Communication activities aim to raise awareness, provide information to stakeholders, and encourage debate. Workshops, press events, and field days have helped sensitize parliamentarians, media, and the public. While progress has been made dampening anti-GMO sentiments and passing biosafety legislation, inadequate funding remains a challenge to communication efforts.
