Genentech is a biotechnology company founded in 1976 by venture capitalist Robert Swanson and biochemist Herbert Boyer. It was one of the first companies founded to develop and commercialize recombinant DNA technology. Genentech developed and brought to market some of the world's first biotechnology drugs, including human insulin, growth hormone, and interferons for multiple sclerosis and hepatitis.
