Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

A. LOVGRUNDLAGET
Uanset om det er arbejdsgiveren eller lønmodtageren, der ønsker at bringe et ansættelsesforhold
til ophør, skal der foretages en aktiv handling for at bringe samarbejdet til ophør, enten ved opsi-
gelse eller ved ophævelse.
Reglerne om opsigelse er forskellige, afhængig af om der er tale om et overenskomstdækket an-
sættelsesforhold, eller om ansættelsesforholdet alene er reguleret ved legale opsigelsesvarsler,
eksempelvis funktionærlovens § 2, eller der er tale om ansættelsesforhold, hvor opsigelsesregler-
ne alene fremgår af individuel ansættelsesaftale. De for det enkelte ansættelsesforhold gældende
opsigelsesregler skal selvfølgelig respekteres. Specielt i forhold til overenskomstdækkede ansæt-
telsesforhold, er det af afgørende betydning, at den relevante overenskomst gennemgås og under-
søges, inden et ansættelsesforhold bringes til ophør. Bringes et overenskomstdækket ansættelses-
forhold til ophør, skal dette ske i overensstemmelse med det i den relevante overenskomst anfør-
te. Det bemærkes her, at der er forskelle fra overenskomst til overenskomst, og at der ikke mindst
kan være forskel på overenskomster på funktionærområdet og på overenskomster uden for funk-
tionærområdet. Således vil der i de fleste overenskomster uden for funktionærområdet være be-
stemmelser, hvorefter der er begrænsninger i opsigelsesadgangen i en vis periode som følge af
lønmodtagerens sygdom. I en generel tjekliste er det ikke muligt at tage højde for disse specifikke
forhold.
Med disse forbehold kan der derfor udarbejdes nedennævnte (brutto) tjekliste.

22. Fortrolighedsklausul (indgås ofte som en del af en fratrædelsesaftale).
23. Evt. stillingtagen til immaterielle rettigheder – patent og brugsmodeller skabt udelukken-
de eller overvejende ved medarbejderens arbejde for arbejdsgiveren.

Såfremt opsigelse af en funktionær, som har været uafbrudt beskæftiget i den pågældende virk-
somhed i mindst 1 år før opsigelsen, ikke kan anses for rimeligt begrundet i funktionærens eller
virksomhedens forhold, skal arbejdsgiveren udrede en godtgørelse. Denne fastsættes under hen-
syn til funktionærens ansættelsestid og sagens øvrige omstændigheder, men kan ikke overstige
funktionærens løn for en periode svarende til halvdelen af det opsigelsesvarsel, der tilkommer den
pågældende i henhold til § 2, stk. 2 og 3. Er funktionæren ved opsigelsen fyldt 30 år, kan godtgø-
relsen dog udgøre indtil 3 måneders løn.
Stk. 2. Såfremt en funktionær ved opsigelsen har været uafbrudt beskæftiget i den pågældende
virksomhed i mindst 10 år, kan den i stk. 1 omhandlede godtgørelse udgøre indtil 4 måneders løn.
Efter 15 års uafbrudt beskæftigelse i virksomheden kan godtgørelsen udgøre indtil 6 måneders
løn.
Stk. 3. Bestemmelserne i stk. 1 og 2 finder tilsvarende anvendelse i tilfælde af uberettiget bortvis-
ning.

Ved afskedigelser af en arbejdstager må vilkårligheder ikke finde sted, og klager over påståede
urimelige afskedigelser kan derfor behandles efter nedenstående regler. Hovedorganisationerne
anbefaler, at sager om påståede urimelige afskedigelser behandles hurtigst muligt af de berørte
parter. Sager, i hvilke der nedlægges påstand om underkendelse af en afskedigelse, skal så vidt
muligt være afsluttet inden udløbet af den pågældende arbejdstagers opsigelsesvarsel.
a) Såfremt der foretages afskedigelse af en arbejdstager, der har været uafbrudt beskæftiget i
den pågældende virksomhed i mindst 9 måneder, har den pågældende arbejdstager ret til at
begære skriftlig oplysning om grunden til afskedigelsen.
b) Hvis man fra arbejdstagerside hævder, at afskedigelsen er urimelig og ikke begrundet i ar-
bejdstagerens eller virksomhedens forhold, kan afskedigelsen kræves behandlet lokalt mellem
repræsentanter for virksomhedens ledelse og dens arbejdstagere. Den lokale forhandling skal
være afsluttet inden for en frist af 14 dage fra underretning om afskedigelse.
Såfremt arbejdsgiveren har afgivet åbenbart urigtige oplysninger om grunden til afskedigelsen,
som er af væsentlig betydning for sagen, regnes ovennævnte frist fra det tidspunkt, hvor arbejds-
tagersiden blev eller burde være blevet bekendt med de korrekte oplysninger. Den lokale forhand-
ling skal dog være afsluttet inden 3 måneder fra underretning om afskedigelsen.
c) Opnås der ikke herved enighed, skal der, hvis det interesserede fagforbund (eventuelt cen-
tralledelse) begærer sagen videreført, omgående optages forhandling mellem organisationer-
ne.
d) Opnås der ikke herved enighed, har det interesserede fagforbund (eventuelt centralledelse)
ret til at indgive klage til et af hovedorganisationerne nedsat Afskedigelsesnævn. Klagen skal
være Afskedigelsesnævnets sekretariat og den modstående organisation i hænde inden for en
frist af 7 dage efter afslutningen af organisationernes forhandling. Regler om Afskedigelses-
nævnets sammensætning og sagsbehandling fastsættes i en forretningsorden for nævnet.
e) Opnås der ikke herved enighed, har det interesserede fagforbund (eventuelt centralledelse)
ret til at indgive klage til et af hovedorganisationerne nedsat Afskedigelsesnævn. Klagen skal
være Afskedigelsesnævnets sekretariat og den modstående organisation i hænde inden for en
frist af 7 dage efter afslutningen af organisationernes forhandling. Regler om Afskedigelses-
nævnets sammensætning og sagsbehandling fastsættes i en forretningsorden for nævnet.
