Krishna reminds Arjuna that he should not grieve for those who are beyond tears. The soul is eternal and cycles through different bodies throughout samsara. Arjuna is attached to the transient pleasures and pains of the physical world but should seek to rise above them. The spirit within both Arjuna and his relatives is eternal and cannot be destroyed. Therefore, Krishna tells Arjuna to carry out his duty as a warrior and not to be disheartened by the prospect of killing his kin.
