also farmworkers, who make less than 32 USD per
month. For most families in the area, poverty has
been a major concern. It takes away their happiness,
educational and job opportunities. Most importantly,
it negatively affects their health over a long term. Ha
is a typical example as he was diagnosed with
congenital heart anomaly when he was two years old
and had a heart surgery in 2012; however, because of
poor nutrition and his family’s inability to pay Ha’s doctor and medical bills, the first surgery did
not meet the intended outcomes. He now needs another surgery soon to correct the defects and
improve his heart health.
Unfortunately, with a family of five members, Ha’s parents can’t even afford to pay their living
expenses, Ha’s surgery cost of almost 4,000 USD is out of their reach. The longer he has to wait for
the surgery, the shorter his life will be. Receiving the surgery funds from kind donors would mean
the whole world to Ha and his family.
