TURKEY'S DISCOVERY STAR
Istanbul - Cappadocia - Pamukkale - Canakkale - Izmir - Ankara
Travelers start this eleven day escorted exploration of Turkey in Istanbul, the nation's largest metropolitan
area and one of the few cities world-wide to span two continents. Three days in Istanbul include a visit to
the regal Topkapi Palace, the stunning Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque, and the ruins of the Hippodrome.
Then shop exotic merchandise at the immense Grand Bazaar before leaving for Ankara, the Turkish
capital that encapsulates the country's ancient and modern history. Next discover the otherworldly
landscape of Cappadocia where the rough earth has yielded clay for artisan pottery, caverns that house
underground cities, and tall pillars that suspend hermitages above the desert. To the east, Pamukkale
beholds another natural wonder-the "Cotton Castle", a collection of naturally formed terraces made of
sedimentary rock that has been deposited by hot springs over the centuries. Not far from this surprising
landscape, the cities of Izmir, Ephesus, Troy, Pergamon, and Canakkale reveal more of the spiritual,
military, and architectural mysteries cloaking this intriguing part of the world. Travelers reflect on the
stunning landmarks they have witnessed as they journey back to Istanbul to begin the trek home.
