Best Time Of The Year To Visit Sicily
1. BEST TIME OF THE
YEAR TO VISIT
SICILY
CLASSIC SICILY
2. Overview
If you're planning about visiting Sicily,
you might be wondering when the best
time to go. A really good question, and
one that is heavily dependent on your
specific preferences. Perhaps you'd want
to avoid the heat and high season
crowds in order to see all the sights. Or
perhaps you're a beach bum who intends
to spend the most of your day sipping
granitas in your bathing suit. Whatever
your purpose for visiting Sicily, there is a
time of year that is ideal for you!
3. Hotels consider the high season to be
from March 31 to October 31, which
means costs are higher and the best
spots go quickly. This, of course, varies
depending on location and month. The
months of March, April, May, and
October are quieter in the highlands
and seaside towns than the months of
June through September. While large
cities are busier in these months, they
are quieter in July and August.
High Season In Sicily
4. Ferragosto week is the most well-known
busy season. This is the well-known mid-
August break in Italy, when many
industries close and most Italians take
time off. During this time, Italian families
like to flock to the seaside or the
mountains, leaving the normally lively
towns somewhat deserted by locals.
If you want to add tour sights and
monuments in large towns like Palermo
and Catania in your trips to Sicily then it
may be worth staying during Ferragosto
week to avoid huge lines. Assuming you
don't mind the added heat!
5. In recent years, we at Classic Sicily have
noted that the busiest months are June
and September, and prices are
beginning to reflect this as well. Italian
schools are closed for three months
during the summer, and many families
plan their vacations to coincide with the
start or end of the break. Not to mention
that international tourists prefer these
months since the weather is not as
scorching as it is in July and August - or
so the belief goes.
6. Sicily's low season occurs naturally during
the winter months, as the island is known for
its shore and weather. But that doesn't mean
now isn't an excellent time to travel. While
you should bring warm clothing in
December, their winters aren't as lengthy or
as harsh as those in northern Europe. In fact,
Sicilians frequently brag to northern Italians
about going for a swim in November or April.
Some claim to have taken a swim in Catania
before climbing the slopes of Mt Etna that
day. Without being overly stereotypical, it is
not uncommon to see foreigners swimming
during the calmer winter months, depending
on where they are from.
Low Season In Sicily
7. Sicily isn't your conventional island trip, and
its appeal extends far beyond what the
coast has to offer. Year round, there is never
a shortage of things to do or see in this city
rich in culture and history. Catholicism
remains an important aspect of Sicilian
culture. If you visit during the Christmas
season, you can see the 'presepe' (nativity
displays) in several of the villages. Discover
Palermo's Christmas traditions. Sicily is also
famed for its gastronomic pleasures, which
are adored by all Italians and others all over
the world. During the cooler months, comfort
meals like pasta alla norma (eggplant
spaghetti), arancino (rice ball), and desserts
like cannolo (ricotta filled pastry) and
cassata cake are most appreciated.
8. Sicily has a subtropical climate, which means
that the weather is generally warm but not hot. If
you prefer your seawater nice and warm when
you go swimming, the average temperature in
August is in the high 20s (80F). The sea is
similarly warm, hovering around 27 degrees
Celsius (80F). Days are also the longest, with
approximately 10 hours of sunlight. July is
similar, with some of the warmest days recorded
in July. The average temperature in the months
preceding and following July and August, namely
June and September, is milder but still suitable
for a beach vacation. As a result, the months of
June through September are perhaps the ideal
to consider our Sicilian Escapade tour.
Best Months For Weather
9. If you want to do it all - history, art,
monuments, nature, seaside, and food –
October is the month to do it. We enjoy
Sicily in October because the summer
heat is still present but the people have
subsided. Are you still unsure? The
Classic Sicily staff can assist you in
tailoring your private tour of Sicily to the
time of year you choose to travel.
