1. To: Hiring Manager, Project Manager,
HR Representative.
It is the standard practice to send a “cover letter” to the responsible persons when applying for a
job, along with your resume. I understand this practice and have done it enumerable times with
little or no response. This has led me to believe that the cover letter and/or my resume have not
adequately communicated my skills or abilities to perform the required tasks of the job I am
applying for.
So, I have decided to create a different kind of “cover letter” that more clearly defines my work
history and abilities that I have learned in my vast years of being employed. I feel that it is
necessary to convey these attributes, for if I were to include them on my resume, it would become
a twenty or more page document.
In my fifty plus years of being employed, I have worked in a varied array of fields of work that
have given me a working background that I think would make me a vital and productive member of
any work force. They are as follows:
Civil Service: Lake Recreation Aide for the City of San Diego.
Construction: Union Laborer, framer, concrete worker and finisher, demolition and
remodeling, heavy equipment operation.
Drafter: Aerospace; technical illustration, Automotive aftermarket, Electro-Mechanical
packaging (defense industry), Industrial Irrigation, Medical Device, Motorcycle
aftermarket.
Landscaper and Gardener: landscape maintained and irrigation installation.
Manufacturing: Electronics assembly, Knife making and assembly.
Restaurant: dishwasher, busboy, short-order cook.
Retail: Seasonal (Toys R Us), Shift manager (mini-mart type store), Parts person (auto and
motorcycle), Parts Manager (lawnmower and power equipment sales and service).
Surveyor: open land and property boundary surveys.
I know it’s hard to imagine anyone having had so many jobs, that actually lasted any length of
time, but I can really attest to the validity of the list and can get references to back them up.
So, if you were going to hire me or offer me a job, do you think that I could be asset to your
company?
Do you think I would be worth the investment?
Why don’t you contact me and we can talk and see what happens.
