International School Enrolments
15. After discussions with the Ministry of Education, Blockhouse Bay Intermediate
School accepted the need to implement an enrolment scheme to manage roll
growth. This scheme came into effect in 2008 and was necessary because
it is Government policy that additional classrooms and teachers will not be
provided while there is spare capacity in the other local schools.
In Zone
All students living in the home zone are entitled to enrol at the school at any
time. Enrolment packs are available from the school office in term three. A
school zone map and in zone street list is on our school website
www.bhbint.school.nz under enrolment information.
Out of Zone
As required by Section 11F of the Education Act 1989 and the instructions
issued by the Secretary under Section 11G(1) of the Education Act 1989,
applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority:
1. first priority must be given to any applicant who is accepted for enrolment
in a special programme run by the school: (this does not apply to our
school)
2. second priority must be given to any applicant who is the sibling of a
current student of the school:
3. third priority must be given to any student who is the sibling of a former
student of the school:
4. fourth priority must be given to any applicant who is a child of a former
student of the school:
5. fifth priority must be given to any applicant who is either a child of an
employee of the board of the school or a child of a member of the board
of the school:
6. sixth priority must be given to all other applicants.
If there are more applicants in the first, second, third, fourth of fifth priority
groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group
will be by a ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the
Secretary under Section 11 G (1) of the Education Act 1989. Parents will
be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in a daily or community
newspaper circulating in the area served by the school.
