10 Things Advertising and Graphic Design Have in CommonTim Watts

9. Jackson Baugh :
I began my professional career creating posters, t-shirt designs
& album artwork for area bands while attending Southwest
Texas State University (Texas State University) where I
received a BFA in Studio Art. Encouraged by Graphic Design &
Typography professors, I took an intro to computer design class
being offered by SWT’s newly formed Communications Design
program (circa 1993).
This introduction to a couple of new computer design
applications (Photoshop & Illustrator) would start a lifelong
fascination with digital design & printing. While completing my
degree, I began to work for an architectural ceramics company
where my interest and skills in both 2D & 3D design was
strengthened as I became involved with the design, production,
&, of course, all the paperwork of large scale architectural
projects. Designing collateral for local bands continued, and the
occasional art show for good measure.
20 years later, my fascination has led me to many areas of
the commercial design, art & printing industries. Knowledge of
both conceptual design & hands-on operations working in art
production studios, print shops, e-commerce, education, and
large format / fine art printing has given me a reputation of being
a jack of all trades.
I also enjoy painting, surfing, playing music, and when not at the
office, can usually be found immersed in DIY projects around
the house.
