Suggesting and Offering
 Suggest means to give a suggestion that is to
introduce or propose an idea or a plan for someone’s
consideration.
 Suggestion are abstract and can be in form of
solutions, advice, plan, and idea. It can be accepted
or refused.
 Social Function : to facilitate interpersonal
communication between different people.
 example : -Let’s go home.
-How about take a break at the
canteen?
When making suggestions, we often use the
following expressions.
• Let’s… (Let’s go to the library.)
• Why don’t we…? (Why don’t we just go home?)
• We could… (We could eat at home today.)
• What about…? (what about playing soccer this afternoon?)
• How about…? (How about moving the table to the next room?)
• I suggest that… (I suggest that we ask Mr.Jake after lunch.)
• You might want to change… (you might want to change your smoking
habit)
• I think… (I think we should do it this way.)
• I don’t think… (I don’t think we should go.)
