Aysha and Dr. Baz are a fresh new Byron
Bay-based music team, bringing you a cool
mix of groove, fun and artistic originality.
Both are strong vocalists and songwriters,
and together they can deliver an appealing
and immersive live show that creates a
good-time party vibe. Their dynamic cover
sets shine with feel-based, crowd-pleasing
interpretations of classic songs, warm jazz
blues and the latest pop grooves,and they
spice it up with smooth, catchy originals.
About Aysha
Sultry London born vocalist Aysha is concerned
with simple, soulful female vocals delivered with
punch. Her voice grabs immediate respect and
is so easy on the ear, with a natural talent that
is instantly recognisable. The accompaniment of
Dr. Baz- either on one strong acoustic guitar, or
polished electric keys, underpinned by stompbox
groove - makes for a bare-bones, honest delivery
of an entertaining variety of well-loved classics
through to accessible, lesser known gems. During
her sporadic, unpredictable, but passionate
affair with the art of singing, Aysha has graced
the same stages as the likes of Bob Dylan, Jimi
Hendrix and Amy Winehouse to name a few.
Barry Ferrier aka ‘Dr. Baz’, is a skilled
multi-instrumentalist, and an award winning song-
writer (collecting 6 North Coast Entertainment
Industry “Dolphin” awards, including twice as
Best Blues Artist, and Best Jazz Artist 2007).
His distinctive deep resonant voice and versatile
instrumental skills are a great complement to
Aysha’s impressive and soulful vocal style.
It’s a quality duo - tight, musically sophisticated,
with great harmonies and a cool blend of songs.

3. Aysha and the Blue Starz
For weddings and corporate functions, Aysha and Dr. Baz are joined by the
polished Byron Bay based blues, jazz and funk rhythm section the Blue Starz. This
is a tight & tasty dance band with great talent and instrumental mastery, delivering
authentic rhythm and blues chops and infectious dance floor grooves, spiced up
with sophisticated jazz & funk influences. The players share a love of groove based
music and a commitment to good playing, and they pride themselves in producing
a great party sound without being deafening! They fill out the sound, get audiences
up on their feet and allow the duo to extend their range into all the great soul, disco
and funk party classics.
Tom Cuyler
A Canadian born guitarist, who still tours regularly with Otttawa based Breakwater
Blues Band, Tom has been a familiar force on the Byron Bay music scene for many
years. A musician’s musician with a disarming humility, his soaring lead guitar and
tasty rhythm licks have been the back-bone of a vast array of Byron Bay lineups. Tom
sings with a gruff and gritty authentic blues shout and is always the consummate
tasteful soloist.
Martin Mueller
Bass guitarist Martin brings energy, infectious enthusiasm, and a big warm bottom
end sound to the Starz, with funky melodic bass lines that are impeccably tight, and
he adds a second harmony to their vocal sound.Martin is also a familiar face on the
Byron Music Scene and toured for some years with Jakarta and has backed many
leading local artists including Gavin Hamilton, and Grace Knight.
Derrick Armistead
Lismore based drummer Derrick is a popular percussionist in musician circles
because he can play a great beat at a low volume. He also has an extensive music
industry record, having played in many groups, including for many years with Steve
Gilpin of Mi-Sex fame in Under Wrapz. His accurate time-keeping, crisp, solid
groove and superb versatility make him an invaluable member to the Starz and he
adds the third harmony.
