The document discusses recommendations for a farm portal that utilizes adaptive knowledge management. It proposes a portal with 3 main sections: [1] structured standardized farm management information; [2] a wiki-like database filled by experts; and [3] marketing and communication tools. The portal would integrate the needs of farmers and their partners while ensuring farmers own their farm data. It would provide a holistic view of the farm, including fields, animals, the environment, and vertical/horizontal business integrations.

The water cycle describes how water is circulated and recycled around the Earth. It involves evaporation of water from oceans, lakes, and rivers into vapor which rises into the atmosphere. The water vapor then condenses to form clouds through condensation. Precipitation occurs when the clouds become too full and water falls back to the Earth as rain, snow, sleet or hail. The water is then collected in oceans, lakes, rivers, and soil to be evaporated again, restarting the cycle.

The document discusses Riena, an Eclipse framework for building rich client applications. It describes key aspects of Riena including its navigation model, support for both RCP and RAP clients, single sourcing approach, and use of singletons. The navigation model uses a tree-based structure with extensions, node builders, and a navigation processor. Riena allows building clients that run on RCP or RAP with mostly shared code through its single sourcing and handling of variations between the platforms.
This document discusses Riena and RAP, which are frameworks for building Eclipse Rich Client Platform (RCP) applications that can run as traditional desktop applications or in a web browser. It covers key concepts of Riena like its navigation model and separation of view and controller. It also explains how to convert RCP singletons to session-scoped singletons to support the web, and how to use facades to abstract platform-specific code for RCP versus RAP. The goal is to allow developers to write code once and deploy to both desktop and web.
Historian to hacker in 48 hours: What can humanists offer at GovHack and what...Jo Hawkins
The past few years have seen a surge in government sanctioned civic hacking events, including the ‘National Day of Hacking’ in the USA, ‘National Hack the Government Day’ in the UK and ‘GovHack’ in Australia. Propelled by a growing Open Data movement, these kinds of events attract problem solvers with a social conscience, with the aim of creating web applications that release the social value of government datasets. Yet, the vast majority of participants are developers, designers and entrepreneurs. Drawing from my experience at GovHack, I shall argue that humanists can make important contributions to civic hacking events as storytellers and strategists, ensuring concepts and executions are grounded in real life research problems. Further to this, collaboration with industry brings design and usability to the forefront and provides an opportunity for historians to engage with the commercial logics that drive the competitive world of online start-ups. For researchers new to digital humanities, these outcome-driven events offer a potential gateway into the field, providing opportunities to gain practical experience and establish networks with like-minded practitioners and organisations outside the academy. Digital Humanist, Alan Liu has argued that researchers in the humanities need to work harder to engage with public audiences and articulate the value of what t
