AN ELDERLY moped rider
was left with serious head
injuries after an accident at
The Willows in Torquay
yesterday afternoon.
Emergency services were
called to Browns Bridge Road
just after 5pm to reports that a
motorcyclist had come off his
vehicle.
Paramedics were first on the
scene and treated the 81-year-
old, who is believed to be local,
for severe head injuries.
It is thought the rider collided
with a car and came off his
bike.
In the fall his helmet came
off.
Paramedic practitioner Paul
Gerry arrived on the scene in a
rapid response vehicle along
with an ambulance and crew
from Torquay.
He said: “On arrival we found a
man with serious head injuries.
He was treated on the scene and
taken by ambulance to Torbay
Hospital.”
Police closed the road while
traffic officers investigated the
collision last night.
A police spokesman said:
“The casualty had been taken to
hospital before we arrived on the
scene.”
It is believed the wife of the
victim turned up moments after
the accident.
Shirley Cordery was on her
way to work at the Willow Tree
pub, when she came upon the
incident near Nightingale
Close.
She said: “There were two
mopeds in the hedge and a
couple of cars.
“One elderly man was on the
floor with a head injury and was
being tended by another man.
“I didn’t see a helmet but there
