ASSURE Method
Using the ASSURE Method explained and describe in the content material, design a lesson
using the ASSURE method for 1 of the following scenario in a word document and
uploaded it to the Assure assignment Drop Box Provided. In the document you will use the
acronym and elaborate on each latter as it was shown on the examples.
A: Teaching the months of the year to a 1st grade class, Special ed, 10 boys, 7 girls, 70% white
20% African-American and 10% Hispanic.7 students in the class have mild to severe ADHD
(attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).
S: My 1st grade classroom will recite the 12 months of the year after singing songs, creating
posters, writing stories, playing computer games, watching videos and making their own
calendars by the end of the week with 80% accuracy.
S: The methods, media, and materials that I will use will best accommodate the students’ needs.
Since I will be instructing children with disabilities and learning impairments, such as ADHD, I
will break down the lessons into smaller segments. Instead of spending 30 minutes on one topic,
I will spend 10 minutes on each topic. Some of the media formats I will use include computers
and text (for visual learners), music (for audio learners), and show and tell (for hands on
learners). I will obtain materials from the school and public library, as well as materials already
in the classroom. By incorporating numerous media formats and methods, the students will
achieve greater success.
U: Before I present my lesson to the students, I will review the 5 P’s. I will preview and prepare
the materials to ensure they are appropriate for the students. I will test the music and computer
beforehand to confirm they will work during class time. I will also prepare the environment and
prep group stations. I will prepare the students in advance and inform them of the activities that
they will be expected to complete.
R: I will require the learners to participate in all aspects of the lesson. I will make sure that the
students are actively participating in all activities provided. Students will work in groups, while
receiving individualized instruction.
E: Before I begin the lesson, I will ask the students to play a game on the iPad, which will test
their prior knowledge on the months of the year. During the lesson, I will ask the students to
create a poster using at least 6 months of the year. At the end of the lesson, I will ask the students
to create a calendar of their own. Students will then present their work at the end of the week by
shown and tell.
