The document provides tips for dressing appropriately for different dinner situations. It suggests sweaters as a versatile option that can be dressed up or down. For more formal dinners like celebrating a boss's birthday, a navy or grey suit is recommended. Dark jeans or chinos with a patterned shirt are suitable for more casual catch-up dinners. It also offers layering tips for wearing summer dresses into autumn with shirts, jackets and boots.

In ye olde days, it was easy to dress for a
food date. You simply went to your wardrobe
and got out your dinner suit. Next minute
you’re en route to your destination. But not
anymore – there are so many outfit options,
but what suits each situation?
I’m a massive fan of sweaters, in crew or V neck.
They are the perfect option for dining out as
you can wear them by themselves, with a tee,
a shirt, or even a shirt and tie (#fancy). Grey,
black or navy sweaters can literally be worn with
any type of pant. This outfit is perfect for dinners
such as, “Hey babe, I have booked dinner at
(new restaurant) for you to meet Mum and Dad”.
What about the dinners that arise from
conversations such as, “Don’t forget tomorrow
night, we have the dinner to celebrate my boss’
40th
birthday”? This is suit time, but not ‘oh look
at me I bought a new suit and am the most
fashionable person in this place’ but more, ‘I
style me!
Take your favourite summer
dress into autumn with these
warming tips.
For work, layer the dress with a
simple crisp white shirt, try Cue’s
Soft Cotton shirt, with some pumps
(matching one of the colours of the
print in the dress). For evening,
layer with a soft trenchcoat, try the
Forever New Beccy Drapey Mac
trench, with some neutral ankle
booties, such as Nine West Kirstey
booties. Cristina Tridente, designer

The easiest way to transform a summer print
dress into winter wear, whether it be day time
or night time, is by adding a cropped jacket,
be it denim or dressy (depending on the day),
teamed with matte black tights and either a
flat ankle boot or a boot with a heel, hoops,
and have fun with the hair.

Still holding onto summer - I’d wear
this printed number with a fringed
jacket and ankle boots, maybe
opaque tights if it was a really cool
autumn day. Complete with an
oversized slouchy bag of course – a
staple.

am silently confident in my abilities to select an
outfit and know I look good without the need for
continuous affirmation’. A navy or dark grey suit
with a light, block-colour shirt is perfect for this
situation. Alternatively, a dark blazer with light
chinos, block-colour shirt, feature socks and
pocket square will do the trick.
Obviously not all food dates require this
much fashion. What about the dinners that
are a result of conversations such as “Oh my
god, I haven’t seen you in years, let’s catch
up for dinner (and secretly judge each other
on what we have achieved in our lives)”,
“Wanna try out (new restaurant) before it
gets crazy?” or “Let’s have a date night and
take lots of selfies and post them to social
media (#datenight)”? Dark jeans or chinos,
patterned shirt and leather boots/brogues are
perfect for this situation. If the shirt is long
sleeved, roll the sleeves up even just a few
rolls; you are not in primary school any more.
If you are unsure of your outfit, ask your
