This document discusses strategies for achieving thermal comfort in architecture using materials, courtyards, and fenestrations. It presents 5 research questions about thermal comfort, traditional Chinese architecture, and how courtyards, materials, and fenestrations help regulate temperature at the Westin Hotel in Xi'an. Specifically, it explains that courtyards block intense sunlight in summer and cold winds in winter. Dark materials like stucco and stone have high thermal mass to release heat in summer and store it in winter. Fenestrations use thick walls, slanted windows, and opposite window orientations on east and west walls.
