Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) can add new dimensions to education by allowing students to experience places and concepts not otherwise possible. VR immerses users in simulated, 3D environments through headsets, while AR overlays digital information on the real world through devices like smartphones. Both are beginning to be used more in education, with VR enabling virtual field trips and AR providing extra digital context to supplement learning. As the technologies become more affordable and widespread, their applications in the classroom are expected to continue evolving in innovative ways to expand what's possible for students.
