Ancient Egypt has long been a focal point of civilization and culture, attracting art scholars from around the world to study its mysterious treasures. Design was an important part of ancient Egyptian art in monuments, temples, and other artifacts. The Faculty of Applied Arts at the German University in Cairo aims to establish new standards of art and design while preserving Egypt's national legacy and character. Students are taught various design techniques and skills to make their work functional for both domestic and international markets. Their designs also aim to serve the environment and society. The faculty hopes its graduates can integrate into a globalized world and use their skills to benefit communities through functional and beautiful design work.

Speech for Applied Arts
For thousands of years, Egypt has been the focal point of
civilization, heritage and culture. With its unique persona, it has been a
magnet for art scholars, from all over the globe, to roll up and unveil
these mysterious treasures that never cease to bewilder the world till
the present moment. Design has been a substantial concern for Ancient
Egyptians, with the variety of monuments, temples, statues and artic
rafts; it becomes quite obvious that initial Egyptians structured every
piece of art by means of a unique DESIGN to serve a specific function.
Hence, the magnitude of design unveils itself; it is the core of art and
the center of all beauty and function. Art and design fulfill the sacred
mission of building bridges of communication between the self and the
other, as well as a nation and the entire globe.
The faculty of Applied Arts is one of the pillars of the German
University in Cairo. It endeavors at establishing new criteria of art
design, without forsaking the national legacy and character. The faculty
personifies the GUC spirit and vision of creativity, innovation, as well as
successful education. Hereby, design becomes functional; it is not only
picturesque but it also has to serve a task. It should meet the demands
of the national and international arenas and is supposed to add to the
society some way or another. Design is fulfillment. Scholars are taught
to experience various sketching and designing techniques, together
with perceptional competence and animation. The GUC designs are also
meant to serve the environment and make life easier to handle.
The sketches produced by the scholars of the Applied Arts faculty
are also meant to appeal to the graphic, media and product design

markets. Students are also trained to acquire technical and personal
interaction. Their work starts off with a concept that is, afterwards,
transformed into a beautiful functional work of art. The GUC under and
postgraduates should be capable of integrating into the multinational,
interdisciplinary, and promptly altering global background. The GUC’s
designs envisage sketching techniques to meet the tangible media’s
market’s demands, thus, performing a beneficial function for the
commune and people as a whole.
At this special moment, let me seize the chance to thank all of
the attendees, faculty members, Academic staff as well as students, for
making this distinctive project come to life. I wish you further success
and achievements; and hopefully your intense labor would contribute
in making Egypt and the universe a better place.
