The principle of operation of a solid
oxide fuel cell
Anode: H2 + O2- →H2O + 2e-
CO + O2- →CO2 + 2e-
Cathode: O2 + 4e- → 2O2-
Advantage of SOFC
- have a high efficiency in converting fuel into
electricity, with conversion rates ranging from
60-85%
- operate at high temperatures, 800-1000OC
- can utilize a variety of fuels such as Hydrogen
Methane Methanol Ethanol
