Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931 in Rameswaram, India. He was the son of a boat owner. Kalam had a distinguished career as a scientist and worked on developing ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology. He believed in the importance of dreams and excellence, and that people should work to pass on a prosperous India to future generations. Kalam stressed the importance of education that builds thinking skills, creativity, entrepreneurship and moral leadership in students. He felt that parents, teachers and society can help create a corruption-free nation by developing strong character in youth.
