1. Campus Security: Lessons Learned From a Security Analysis
at Antioch University of New England
Mark Keller, Austin Kowalchek, Sophia Freeman, Derek Fischer
Abstract
The safety of faculty and students in educational
facilities has been in the national spotlight after
numerous active shooter events have occurred.
The goal of this project is to assist the
administration of the Antioch University of New
England (AUNE) campus with identifying
potential safety and security concerns, and
develop recommendations for ensuring the safety
of the campus community. Using the ANSI Z.10
standard, which is a continuous improvement
safety management voluntary program, to
complete this project a hazard assessment will be
conducted throughout the campus that reviews
the standard operating procedures and
emergency action plans in a gaps analysis, and a
thorough hazard communication and reduction
plan will be provided. Recommendations
provided will be evaluated for implementation for
their campuses across the country. The
procedures and controls identified have the
potential to set precedence for educational
facilities everywhere.
