George Müller established orphan houses in Bristol, England in the 1830s to demonstrate that God provides for those who trust in Him through prayer alone, without asking others for donations. When starting the work, Müller prayed only that God would reveal His will. Later he began specifically requesting from God the needs of the orphanages, such as a building, money, supplies, and children, and every request was provided often within days. Even when funds dwindled to £20 among the three houses and more expenses were due, God provided £10 more on the very day it was needed through a brother Müller met.
