Basic Principles
of the Anointing
2. Preparation (of
the anointing oil)
was Necessary
2. तयारी आवश्यक िथयो
Tayārī āvaśyaka thiyō
One commentator
suggests that the
preparation was
“painstaking”

It was done with great
care and attention to
detail.
Like the materials of the Tabernacle and
its furnishings…the Oil of Anointment is
to be painstakingly prepared by the most
professional methods. And…the Oil is
reserved for use only in the worship of
Yahweh.
Word Biblical Commentary: Exodus
Word Biblical Commentary: Exodus
A great deal of time and energy was
taken to make sure the best was
given.
Then the Lord said to Moses, 2 “See, I
have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of
Hur, of the tribe of Judah, 3 and I have
filled him with the Spirit of God,
[anointed him] with wisdom, with
understanding, with knowledge and with
all kinds of skills
How does God prepare
his people?
How is he getting you
ready for him to be
glorified in you?
For the anointing oil the
ingredients had to be
collected / assembled.

They had to be prepare
and in good condition,
ready for use.
“We all tend to go to extremes; some rely
only on their own preparation and look for
nothing more; others tend to despise
preparation and trust to the anointing and
the inspiration of the Spirit alone. But there
must be no "either/or" here; it is always
"both/and." These two things must go
together.”
Martyn Lloyd-Jones
Martyn Lloyd-Jones
2a. Preparation
looks like…
2a। तैयारी जस्तो
देिखन्छ...
Isaiah 64:8

"O Lord, you are our
Father. We are the clay,
you are the potter; we
are all the work of your
hand."
Tests / Testing
Jas 1:3,4, Rom 8:28
Show the foundations,
the true values of our
life
Develops our ability to
persevere in faith
through all
circumstances
Improve the quality of
our walk with Him –
Joseph
Throw us on the Lord
and teach us to be
dependent on Him –
Abraham having a son
Refine or purify us
spiritually – Samuel in a
corrupt situation had to
walk with the Lord 1
Sam 2:12, 21, 26, 3:19
Show us our weaknesses
and limitations so that we
can depend on God more
– 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
Show us what is real
and what is not – Peter
happy to confess
Jesus, follow
anywhere, then denial!
The Time Test—how
long will you wait for God
at act?

Abraham was 75 when
left Haran—100 when
promise was fulfilled Gen
17:1; 18:10
The Word Test
When circumstances are
very different to Word of
God or promise received.
Joseph - favourite son.
Aged 17 Word of the
Lord came to him,
37:5-11.
What followed:

Betrayed

Sold

Seduction and
accusation

Thrown in prison

Hope dashed
Stopped Joseph
depending upon his own
abilities.

Made Joseph depend
on God’s strength.

Brought a greater
influence upon more
people at the end.
God is in control and uses
circumstances—never think that satan
is in control

Temptation comes, but never beyond
what you can bear 1 Cor 10:13
‘It is not the
circumstances that are of
greatest importance, but
our reactions to them.’
