3. Message from the ED
From People to People
It’s already the end of 2022, this year has been a year of
exponential growth. I am excited for the future we all share—
building upon strong foundations to expand our impact,
increase our reach, and accelerate our pace.
Starting my 2nd year as the MAS-DC executive director,
something that has deeply impressed me is how our
organization resides in the fabric of so many people’s lives.
The part we play in helping build generations, creating a
support system for any in need and a safe space for youth to
grow and develop.
Indeed 2022 was a blessed fruitful year, full of achievements,
successes, and opportunities. The center was able to serve
over 6000 iftar meals during ramadan. Our food bank has
grown throughout the year to serve over 2000 individuals
every month, with an increase in the amount and quality of
the products being served and further development of its
operational & managerial functions.
The Tarbiya department has improved and built a strong
foundation to now serve all ages from 5 years old to young
adults and older age groups, through study circles,
programs, courses, camps, and special events with the focus
on raising a generation of muslim americans with a strong
muslim identity.
This year we have been focusing on empowering our youth
with training & mentorship to prepare them to become our
future community leaders and educate them to become
qualified to lead programing, teach and deliver the message
to their youngsters effectively.
Our youth were provided the opportunity to attend multiple
national programs such as the Tarbiya and Ilm camp (TIC) at
New Jersey, AYM-TAM-PACE summit in Kansas and MASCON
convention. We always encourage our youth to connect with
their brothers and sisters from other chapters, widen their
network & share their experiences.
This year our motto has been “From people to people '', it’s
with the commitment of our community members, and
generous donations of money and time that we are able to
keep our doors open, serve the community, and further
develop our programming.
Tamer Ammar
MASDC Executive Director
Thank you for supporting MASDC and we are looking
forward to serve you during 2023.
4. Our Vision & Philosophy
Tarbiyah
Focusing on personal development of individuals
through a comprehensive Islamic educational
curriculum, MAS promotes active involvement in
communities across the U.S. by providing
opportunities for community service, interfaith
initiatives, youth programs, and civic engagement.
By cooperating and collaborating with other
organizations, MAS has expanded its reach into
thousands of communities across the United States.
Our Objectives are to:
• To present the message of Islam to Muslims and
non-Muslims and promote understanding
between them through cooperating on common
grounds.
• To encourage the participation of Muslims in
building a virtuous and moral American society.
• To offer a viable Islamic alternative to many of
our society’s social illnesses, economical
injustices, and political corruptions.
• To promote family values in accordance with
Islamic teachings.
• To promote the human values that Islam came
to emphasize: brotherhood, equality, justice,
mercy, compassion, and peace.
• To foster unity among Muslims and non-Muslims
by encouraging cooperation and coordination
on common grounds.
THE TARBIYAH PHILOSOPHY
Tarbiya” is an Arabic word that linguistically means
increase, growth, and refinement; and religiously it
refers to the process of educating, nurturing, and
developing individuals, groups, and societies.
Tarbiya is a continuous positive influence that leads
to growth in all aspects intellectual, spiritual, and
physical and the development of skills, talent, and
abilities. The Tarbiya process goes beyond the level
of individuals to the level of the group, trying to
establish the elements of team spirit that Islam
teaches such as love, brotherhood, and mutual trust
1. Diversity of Programs: catering to our diverse
communities, different age groups, needs, and
understanding and experience levels.
2. Connection with the Community: through the
interconnectedness of community arise both
wonderful experience and challenges. The
Tarbiya and executive team strive to provide
these opportunities and provide scaffolding to
help foster healthy communities and ensure
positive growth through the bitter and the sweet.
3. Service Initiatives: The Prophet (SAW) said, “The
one who serves a people is their master.” As an
integral process of spirituality, we challenge
ourselves to come together as a community and
intentionally put ourselves in situations outside
of our comfort zones and deepen our
self-knowledge.
4. Mentor-Menteer Engagement: striving to
emulate the Prophet (SAW)’s one-on-one direct
mentorship of the Sahaba, we pair community
members who are interested and looking for a
deeper investment with someone who’s had
their religious knowledge tested and character
approved by the Tarbiya Team. Through this
engagement there’s a symbiotic life-changing
benefit for both parties, the one serving and the
one being served.
•
To move people to strive for God-consciousness, liberty
and justice, and to convey Islam with utmost clarity.

10. Achievements
2022 Highlights
Kheira Bekkadja
MASDC PACE Coordinator
Soft Launch of Ribat Lounge
Relaunch of PACE
Brotherhood is an essential part of the Islamic ethos and its manifestation has always been a challenge,
from the early Muslim community until today. The first reported ‘brotherhood’ that was established was
between Abdur Rahman b. Awf and S’ad b. Rab’i . This tradition of brotherhood (ar. mu’akhah) was
abrogated as an imposed system and remained on throughout Muslim history in different forms. Some
of these forms manifest themselves in different ways today, including the tariqah system adopted by
the sufis, the ‘neighbornets’ adopted by “Young Muslims” and the usrah system adopted by the “Muslim
American Society”, among others. All of these are modified fraternity systems that create a sense of
belonging and/or provide mentorship. American Muslim youth have reported that Islamic centers and
mosques often have little knowledge of the challenges facing them and are unable to provide
contextualized religious educational programs to aid in their religious and spiritual development. From
here came the idea of Ribat with the vision:
To be a wholesome and welcoming sanctuary that serves the spiritual and social needs of young
professionals by helping them rediscover and reconnect with the rich beauty of Islam.
With a diverse and growing population, the Muslim American community has been part of the
fabric of America since its inception as a country. Recognizing that rich history and the strength of
our community encourages us to envision an inclusive America where all people are treated with
dignity and respect. MAS-PACE was founded in 2012 to engage and increase Muslim communities
across the United States’ participation in mobilizing for change.
MAS-PACE is an advocacy, community organizing, public affairs and leadership development hub
that firmly believes in the dignity and empowerment of the Muslim American community. We are a
division under the Muslim American Society, a national grassroots organization.
This year PACE is led by Sr. Kheira Bekkadja is a student at George Mason University, striving to create
spaces and build bridges [literally] by studying civil & infrastructure engineering and [figuratively]
through de-stigmatizing mental health and empowering youth.
Born and raised in Northern VA, Kheira grew up attending MAS-DC and was part of the local Girl
Scouts troop. As the Public Affairs & Civic Engagement Coordinator, Kheira’s greatest goal is to
mobilize the Muslim community and youth to create the change they want to see in their
communities while being their wholehearted and unapologetic Muslim selves. The MAS-DC
community helped shape the person Kheira is today and she hopes to be a source of inspiration for
others!

11. Growing Blossoms program
(Launch of level 2)
Youth Empowerment & Training
Hot Meals Program
Prophetic Guidance Conference
This year the food bank at MASDC has grown and secured a partnership with suppliers to provide 200 weekly hot
meals during the weekly food drive; and over 6000 Iftar meals during Ramadan. Our target is to grow this number
to reach 550 meals every week by the end of 2023.
This year MASDC organized it’s 2nd Annual Prophetic Guidance Conference that was held on Saturday, October 22,
2022. MAS Community Center’s mission is to provide tarbiya (cultivation) in the development of future Muslim
leaders and we believe that it can only happen with a deep understanding and connection with Prophet
Muhammad ﷺ. This annual Seerah conference seeks to highlight the Prophet’s connection to and impact on the
youth; with the hope of stimulating positive growth as a community. As part of our continued service to the
community, we will be hosting a conference and fundraising event at George Mason University. The keynote
speakers are Imam Yasir Fahmy, Ustadh Ubaydullah Evans, Imam Merchant and Shaykh Kifah Mustafa.
Blossoms is an Arabic immersion program, that jump-starts kids into learning Arabic at a young age. At Blossoms
students are introduced to the basics of Arabic speech, letter recognition, Quran, and islamic studies using the
latest educational techniques. The program uses best educational curricula specialized in teaching reading and
writing for this age group and ensures to envelop developmentally appropriate teaching practices to embed skills
necessary for children at this level. Over the span of two years, students memorize surahs from the 30th Juz' of the
Quran with tafseer, basics of a'qaed, and arabic alphabet. They memorize, understand, and apply selected hadiths
and duaa that reinforce Islamic values and daily manners.
This year Blossoms has grown to launch level 2 (second year) of the program, doubling the number of students,
teachers working for the program; and sponsoring 3 out of 18 students.
Throughout 2022 MASDC has been focusing on empowering the youth and encouraging them to take part in
multiple local and national camping & education programs. They participated in MAS-NY youth camp, MAS-ICNA
convention and AYM-TAM-PACE summit our youth utilized the opportunity to connect with other chapters, grow
their knowledge and develop their skills. 24 youth members attended MAS-NY youth camp, 12 MAS-DC volunteers
at the MAS-ICNA convention, 12 youth leaders at the AYM-TAM-PACE summit, 16 youth attended the Tarbiya and
Ilm camp organized by MAS National. As well as, an annual local summer camp for young youth and adult men,
attended by more than 70 members of the community.
12. We would like to express our deepest gratitude for your contribution to MASDC during 2022, your donation allows us
to continue to serve the community and empower hundreds of youth and families by providing mentorship, spiritual
guidance and moving them to strive for God-consciousness, liberty and justice, and to convey Islam with utmost
clarity. On behalf of your brothers and sisters at MASDC we thank you and ask Allah to make it a means of increase
in goodness in your wealth and family. May He accept it in your scale of good deeds and bring you in closer to Him.
