2. Baking?
Being a Jain, I wasn’t allowed to eat
cakes. My mom, who’s a fantastic cook,
cooked everything except cakes. And
when my kids were born (and obviously
took a penchant to cakes and ice
creams), I learnt to bake.
Baking eventually became the bread
winner (pun-intended) of the family,
when my husband, Arun, met with an
accident and was unable to work for a
brief period. Even after he has resumed
work now, I still bake because I realized I
am enjoying myself.
And since the kids were disturbing me a
lot, I bake at mid night!
3. Specialty?
I really don’t know but my friends
and customers say that the truffle
cakes and choco muffins with choco
chips are a big hit.
I don’t think I want to specialize in
just one product. I just want all my
stuff to be healthy and tasty and I’m
super glad that my customers are
loving it.
4. Cocktail Classes? Seriously?
Haha yes! So you know about it ?
There are other classes and workshops –
mocktails, Chinese, Mexican and Italian
cooking, Cookies, Cakes, Chocolates,
Chocolate Bouquets, perfume making,
North Indian snacks, easy-go snacks for
the kids and much more!
And recently, I have also started
trousseau packing.
5. What else?
I love to dance and eat super spicy
food!
Apart from that, I, along with my
friend Meenu, organize exhibitions.
Aakarshan started a few months
ago. So it’s keeping me busy.
6. HBG and Showcase?
It’s an open book to seasoned bakers and
new comers. (A vardhaan so to speak). Free
online tutorial where everyone is a teacher
and everyone is a student. A guide to all
queries, however silly they might be!
The moment KP announced that I was one
among the participants, I almost shouted
from the rooftops. It has given me a strong
identity as a home baker.
At this point, I also want to thank my family
for the support. A special thanks to KP and
Nanditha for starting such a wonderful group
– a revolution in the history of baking, very
down to earth. They have created a business
platform for all baking enthusiasts.
Psst: She thanked me too, but I’m leaving that
outta here! :P
7. Some cakey experience?
As I said, being Jains, my dad
never ate cakes his whole life.
And when I started to bake, I
wanted him to taste. There was
pin drop silence at home as the
put a small piece of the cake in
his mouth.
As we waited with bated breath,
he started clapping and said he
loved the taste (and even asked
for more) and blessed me to
continue.
Boy, was the tension worse than
my board exams!
8. Order management?
Tricky! A whole battalion helps me
actually! Mom baby sits the kids,
while I bake.
Most times, because I bake in the
night, my husband delivers before he
goes to the shop (Yeah he runs a
gaming shop in Tiruvanmiyur :D)
