Angina pectoris is a clinical syndrome characterized by episodes of chest pain or pressure behind the breastbone caused by reduced blood flow to the heart. It has several types and is caused by blockages in the coronary arteries. Treatment includes medications like nitroglycerin, aspirin, beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, and statins to relieve symptoms and reduce risk factors, as well as surgical procedures like coronary bypass surgery or atherectomy to restore blood flow.
