Jordan Dent is running from Turner, who accuses Jordan of stealing money and punches him. Jordan runs away as fast as possible to escape a beating. As Jordan runs, he plans to take shelter at his fifth grade teacher Mr. Gloc's house. When Jordan arrives at Mr. Gloc's house, he notices something is different and dark.

I myself was never a quick, think it through kinda person. So my immediate reaction was “what in the world are you talking about you liar, I never took anything of yours!’ Now Turner was more of a action speak louder then words and his action at that exact moment was a quick and swift left hook to my temple. <br />My daze slowed me down greatly but I managed to think of one thing run like crazy and I did. I knew eventually unless I gave Turner and his goons the slip they would catch me and beat me to a pulp. So as always me being a not think it through kinda person I decided in would try to get in to my fifth grade teachers house, the old man was always polite to me. While I ‘m debating all of this in my head Turner just keeps closing in on his prey of course being me. My legs got num from the freezing December wind.<br />I could now see his house, or what his house used to be. Something was different something had happened. But at this point I wanted Turner off my back so I kept running. Wait he stopped, my smile could not have been bigger. Me, Jordan Dent had out run and left in the dust the great and powerful Turner. I didn’t slow down though, why would I all this adrenaline needed to wear off. So I kept trudging on to Mr.Gloc’s house which was two houses away.<br />As I stepped to the side walk something was different. The darkness of everything. <br />
