has increased fivefold, meaning it is now the second most-studied language there.
Madrid, Spain, July 24, 2013 - According to the Regional Government of Andalusia, the demand for Spanish language teaching in
India has increased fivefold, meaning it is now the second most-studied language there.
Twenty Andalusian companies from the Spanish language teaching sector recently participated in an event organised by the
Andalusian Foreign Promotion Agency to learn more about business opportunities in India. Figures from the University of Delhi
show that the demand for Spanish teaching has increased fivefold in the country, meaning Spanish is now the second most
sought-after language.
The increase in business opportunities for Spanish language schools has gone hand in hand with India’s economic and social
development over recent years, with anticipated growth of 5% in 2013 and 6.6% by 2015. Also significant is the young age of
the country’s population, which has seen university enrolment triple since the 1990s.
Spanish language learning today is linked to the development and internationalisation of certain industries and the ever-
growing spread of western culture, says EFE.
India is also a market in which Andalusian companies have an ever-increasing presence, with their exports to the country rising
by 17% in 2012 to €86.3 million. EFE says that exports rose by 17.4% in 2012 to €86.3 million, a trend that is continuing in 2013,
with sales having grown in the first third of the year by 10.6% (€20.2 million).
