The objective of the present work was to predict the bursting pressure of ductile iron pipes using Fitnet FSS criterion. The failure
of the pipes was evaluated based on the Tresca and von Mises criteria. The significance of crack dimensions was recognized using
Taguchi techniques. The highly influencing crack dimensions were pipe thickness and crack depth. The results obtained by the
Fitnet FSS criterion have been in line with those of experimentation.

When introduced to the project and given instructions on how to run it, Ana-Maria was extremely attentive and was not afraid to ask questions to make sure that she understood every aspect of the task. She grasped the practical side of the task very quickly and also made sure that she understood the theory behind the experiment even though this was not expected of her. In running the experiment she worked diligently and very capably – when a problem arose she was very creative in coming up with solutions on the spot. She also kept a thorough record of her data collection and completed the project in excellent time. Overall, Ana-Maria has proven to me that she is a very capable and independent person who will strive to perform at her very best when given the opportunity.
