This message serves to prove how our minds can
do amazing things! Impressive things! In the
beginning it was hard but now, on this line your mind
is reading it automatically without even thinking
about it, be proud! Only certain people can read this.
Please forward if you can read this.

I couldn’t believe that I could actually understand
what I was reading. The phenomenal power of the
human mind, according to a research at Cambridge
University, it doesn’t matter in what order the letters
in a word are, the only important thing is that the first
and last letter be in the right place. The rest can be a
total mess and you can still read it without a
problem.

what is schema?
2. What is the significance of schema
in the process of reading?
29. ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS 2
2. What is the significance of schema in the
process of reading?
Problems in comprehension can sometimes be
traced back to insufficient background
knowledge on the part of the reader. This is a
common experience among students studying
a new topic. Often times, insufficient
background knowledge on a specific topic
may result in poor comprehension of a reading
material.
30. OTHER REASONS FOR POOR COMPREHENSION
1. Failure to understand a word
2. Failure to understand a sentence
3. Failure to understand how sentences relate to
one another
4. Failure to understand how the information fits
together in a meaningful way (organization)
5. Lack of interest or concentration
(Twining, 1991 in Bandura)
32. EVALUATION
1. In one sentence, define reading as a
process.
2. What are the different elements in the

flow from text to reader or reader to text?
4. What are the different levels of
comprehension?
5. What is the importance of knowing more
about the reading process?
34. WHAT’S A REBUS?
A rebus is an allusional device that uses
pictures to represent words or parts of words.
It was a favourite form of heraldic expression
used in the Middle Ages to denote surnames,
for example in its basic form
three salmon fish to denote the name
"Salmon".

*As time-filler, for fun, and further proof that reading is getting and giving information.
In linguistics, the rebus principle means using existing symbols, such as pictograms, purely for their sounds regardless of their meaning, to represent new words. Many ancient writing systems used the rebus principle to represent abstract words, which otherwise would be hard to be represented by pictograms.
