ANALYSIS OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
FOR LANDFILLS
4. How the impact of waste on the
environment and society?
How the management system and the
government policy of waste in Bekasi
and the surrounding area?
5. Basically all the efforts and the development will have an impact in the future. Initial planning for a business
or development activity shall contain estimates of the impact has been important in the future, in order to be
considered whether the plan needs to be made countermeasures in the future or not. Development is a
conscious and planned effort in order to manage and exploit natural resources, in order to achieve the
development goals of improving the quality of life of the people and the nation of Indonesia. The
development over time, continues to meet the needs of the ever increasing population.
Environmental Impact Analysis
6. The results of calculations based on population, the number of domestic waste
from households amounted to 2,915,263,800 ton / year or 5900-6000 tons /
day; sludge from septic tanks at 60363.41 ton / year and that comes from
processing industry amounted to 8,206,824.03 tons / year.
Data and Fact
7. Waste transported from location Shelter While (LPS)
will be processed in place of Annihilation (TPA). TPA
is now the Bantar Gebang, Bekasi with an area
of 108 hectares planned. Status of the land belongs
to the Jakarta Government and extermination
system implemented is "sanitary landfill". Total land
area is already used by 85 percent, the rest ± 15
percent is expected to accommodate the trash until
2004, so that the Jakarta Government is now
looking for alternatives to waste management
systems through cooperation with the private sector.
Operational result is not perfect, then the resulting
pollution of water bodies around the LPA and ground
water caused by waste and the occurrence of fire for
the burning of methane gas.
Data and Fact
8. To overcome that problem the Sanitation Department has
conducted activities such as:
1. Adding Waste Treatment Unit facilities and improve the processing efficiency
so that the effluent quality meets the requirements for disposal.
2. Increase / improve waste management in accordance with the procedure
"sanitary landfill".
3. Helping people around the LPA by providing clean water, health centers and
ambulance.
4. Set the scavengers in order not to interfere with the operation of LPA.
9. in general, local governments in tackling the problem of waste management
plans should have a good living environment for local residents. Where in
preparing environmental management there are three factors to consider and
can not be separated, namely:
a. Who will conduct environmental management and environmental management what to do
b. In accordance with the impact that is expected to happen, it will be assigned the management methods
of how to do or what technologies will be used so that the results are in accordance with the quality
standards set by the government
c. Due to various institutions including the project owner will undertake integrated environmental
management, the technology to be used depends on the ability of the costs to be incurred, particularly
the ability of the project owner as the sources of pollution.
10. Common problems that occur in the management of municipal waste in the
landfill, especially big cities is the lack of land, pollution, social problems and
others. Because the management of waste in the landfill must meet the following
requirements:
a. Utilizing the limited land effectively
b. Choose the technology that is easy and safe for the environment
c. Choosing technology that provides products that can be sold and provide maximum benefit to the
community
d. Products should be sold out.
11. 1. Lack of public awareness.
2. Lack of community in action.
3. Lack of knowledge of the community to deal with environmental problems.
4. Limited facilities and infrastructure of government.
The Causative Factor
12. With the landfill in an area, usually affects the health and environment for surrounding residents. As an
example in the presence of the landfill:
1. The local residents reap endless suffering.
2. Impacts such as ISPA disease, Gastritis, Myalgia, anemia, skin infections, skin allergies, asthma,
rheumatic, hypertension, and others.
3. can damage the environment and ecology of the surrounding
4. pollution of soil in which the activity of the landfill will have an impact on soil quality (physical and
chemical) in TPST location and surroundings.
5. The land was originally cleared of garbage going into the soil mixed with the waste / garbage, both
organic and inorganic household waste and industrial waste and hospital
The Negative impact of waste on
the environment and society
13. Being a highly productive land in the economy for the surrounding communities.
Piles inorganic waste at the landfill, has given rise to new initiatives in sectors of the economy for the
communities around the landfill, they assume the scrapheap is land economy extremely productive, by
collecting rubbish inorganic, such as plastic, or secondhand goods are not easily perishable, plastic and
used goods have been able to meet the needs of their daily lives, even according to community responses
that are around there, the income they get from the landfill by collecting plastic and used goods is more
than enough. In fact, there are people around who want to leave his merchandise business, because they
assume TPA better able to meet their economic needs everyday.
The Positive impact of waste on
the environment and society
