This document provides an overview of a presentation on food safety for non-experts. The presentation agenda includes an introduction to food recalls, regulation and oversight, as well as food safety tips. It also summarizes a recent FDA press release announcing a nationwide recall of chili powder due to potential Salmonella contamination. No illnesses have been reported to date. The recall was prompted by routine sampling by the State of Maryland. It also shares a food risk matrix that maps out different types of food risks based on intent and motivation, including issues related to public health, economics, and terrorism.
