Once a wise friend of mine told me that every man should have at least a pair of brogue. And if you have a
few nice leather shoes, often you will find most of your shoes will have some sort of decorative pattern or
brogueing.
曾經一位朋友告訴我，每個男人都應該至少擁有一對雕花皮鞋 (Brogue)。而若你有幾對好皮鞋，很大機會部
分會有一些裝飾花紋或雕花(Brogueing)。
However, have you ever wondered how you call all those beautiful patterns on your shoes and how to
wear different brogue shoes appropriately?
但你知道這些不同花紋的叫法嗎? 又知道怎樣配襯不同Brogue鞋嗎?
Brogueing or Medallion 雕花飾紋
With a shape resembling the letter W, full brogues, aka Wingtips, have a pointed toe cap extending from
both sides of the shoe to near the ball of the foot. Usually they feature decorative brogueing, sometimes
called Medallion, both in the centre of the toe cap and along its edges.
形狀如英文字母W，Full brogues或Wingtips擁有一個尖形的鞋頭飾皮及雙翼，由鞋頭延伸至兩邊到腳掌位
置。通常鞋頭及翼上都會有雕花。

Similar to full brogue, a Longwing brogues features a wingtip with decorative brogueing. The only
difference is that the wings extend along the full length of the shoe and meet at a center seam at the heel.

Most of the time longwing brogues are made as a Derby, giving them a more rugged touch and the name
‘American brogues’ in the UK.
跟Full Brogue十分相似，Longwing brogues擁有一雙翼，唯一不同是雙翼一直伸延至鞋跟。很多時候
Longwing brogues都是Derby，令它們看來比較粗獷及有美式Brogue之稱。

Semi or Half brogues have a simple toe cap without wings. First designed in 1937 by the legendary
English shoemakers John Lobb, these shoes feature broguing both in the centre of the toe tap and along
their edge.
Semi或Half brogues擁有一個簡單的鞋頭飾皮，沒有雙翼。由傳奇英國鞋匠John Lobb於1937年設計，這種
鞋在鞋頭及邊沿均有雕花紋。

Compared with the rest of the brogues, quarter brogues feature the minimal decorative patterns. They
have toe caps with brogueing only along the caps edge.
相對其他Brogue款，Quarter Brogue擁有最簡約的裝飾花紋。雕花紋只有在鞋頭的邊沿可見。
How to wear them如何配襯?

The general rule is that more broguing the shoes have, the less formal they are. Therefore, half brogues
or quarter brogues with relatively more subtle brogueing, will work well as a dress shoe with a suit,
maintaining the overall formality. On the other hand, the long wing and full brogues will go perfectly with

your casual wear, paired with jeans and chinos.
基本原則是，鞋愈多花紋，愈休閒。 所以，花紋相對簡單的half brogues或quarter brogues適合作為正裝鞋
配襯西裝，保持整體一致性。而另一方面，long wing及full brogues跟休閒服飾如牛仔褲或布褲則十分配襯。
