The Advanced Management Achievement Course (AMAC) is a 3-week accredited management development program designed for middle to senior military officers looking to transition to non-military careers. Since 1993, over 1,000 officers have participated in AMAC to expand their leadership skills. Through practical sessions, workshops, and expert tutoring, participants develop the confidence and skills needed to succeed in business. Previous AMAC attendees have gone on to high-level managerial positions and started their own companies.

The Advanced Management Achievement Course
or AMAC is an accredited management development
programme designed specifically for middle and
senior ranking officers looking to move into a
new career in non-military organisations.
AMAC is a well established and highly regarded
programme. It has been running since 1993
and MBS has worked with over 1,000 officers
to expand their leadership skills for the
commercial world. Making the move into the
business world isn’t easy. The expertise and
skills you’ve developed in the military need to
be refined and honed to fit the commercial
environment. Through highly practical,
interactive sessions, tutors who are experts in
their fields and workshops focused specifically
on your group’s needs, you’ll develop the
confidence and additional management tools
to take the next step in your career. AMAC
provides the knowledge, hands-on expertise
and relevant experience of the ever-changing
business world which is essential to make your
transition a success.

Who should attend?
The programme is intended to support the ranks
of Major, Lieutenant Commander, and Squadron
Leader or above. However, graduate entry
officers with the rank of Captain, Lieutenant
(RN), or Flight Lieutenant may also apply.
What are the aims of the programme?
The programme aims to act as a springboard to
further develop your existing expertise ready
for a non-military career. It will provide an overall
understanding of the business environment
and help you understand business ‘language’.
The sessions will help you develop your planning
for the open job market and reinforce your
business confidence.

4. Before the programme
It is important to know that AMAC is an
intensive three week programme with a
typical day of 0900-2100hrs (1500hrs on
Fridays). Your weekends will include study,
research and reflection time to support
the next week’s sessions. All participants
have 24hr computer access for research and
membership of the School’s comprehensive
library is also provided.
The programme is fully residential. The
fifteen day package (Sunday to Friday) is
standard, and a 19 day package, including
weekends is also available. En-suite, single
study bedrooms with TV, radio, private
telephone and tea and coffee making
facilities are provided.
The programme examines key business themes
to prepare delegates with a full picture of the
economic environment.

include: Strategy, Marketing, Human
Resources, Economics, Financial Accounting and
Management, Business Management including
Change Management and topical business
issues.
In the first week an overview is given of the basic
concepts within each subject area. During the
second week ideas are further developed and an
understanding of their application to business
discussed.
During the third week the relevance of pre-course
knowledgeandcourselearningwithinthebusiness
context is more fully realised, and the application
of ideas by business managers in management
situations is explored.
Access to structured industrial
research together with
organised visits provides
essential learning in an
environment which is ideal
for the transition to a non-
military management career.
The teaching style is open and
proactive with a mixture of
lectures, tutorials, case studies,
group work and research time.

Some AMAC delegates choose to continue on to

I met some fantastic people, both lecturers and
delegates. The key to success was learning
private sector ‘civvy speak’ and gaining the
confidence to step up to the plate at Board Level.
