Presented at the Georgia Libraries Conference in Columbus, GA on 10/04/2018.
The Coastal Georgia Library Collaborative (CGLC) officially formed in 2016 to encourage collaboration, networking and professional development for Savannah area librarians and paraprofessionals. The Atlanta Emerging Librarians (AEL) formed in 2008 to serve Metro Atlanta MLIS students, new graduates and new librarians in a similar way. This presentation discusses both groups challenges and successes.
D9520 Young Professionals Forum - Attracting Young Professionals Part 2Mark Huddleston
In this second presentation, D9520 Membership Chair Mark Huddleston presents some simple tips that clubs can implement to make their clubs more attractive
School’s out for summer, as you’ve probably noticed because of the recent influx of tots and teens participating in your story hours and book clubs. Public librarians with experience in youth outreach will spend this hour sharing what has worked and what has not when it comes to reaching this patron population at their libraries. Bring your own best practices to share with the group as well.
We are currently going through a strategic planning process to develop objectives that will guide us to new services.
The following presentation is one we have been sharing with our local community about our upcoming changes!
Diversity benchmarking: Improving diversity and inclusion in library collectionsBookNet Canada
An area of need that has emerged from American libraries and the American publishing industry is the need for diverse books. Canadian libraries have a similar need, but does the American publishing industry reflect the unique minority populations found in Canada? Librarian Laina Kelly looked at the YA collection of a medium-sized library branch, analyzing the diverse content of each book, as well as author minority identities. This presentation builds on BookNet Canada’s report Demand for Diversity and reveals areas of diversity specific to Canadian populations that are needed in library collections.

Developing NextGen Leaders in Your Library and the Profession: Grow Your Own
ALA Annual Conference
Chicago, IL
Saturday, June 29, 2013 - 1:00pm to 2:30pm
Over the past decade or so, librarians have periodically turned their attention to the arrival of a new generation, first in their libraries and then in the profession. This recent cohort, variously referred to as NextGen, Millennials, or Generation Y, is now poised to enter leadership roles in libraries and professional organizations. This panel will discuss how the distinctive characteristics of these librarians might influence succession planning, library leadership, and the future of our profession.
