2. Introduction
Basketball is a team
sport in which two teams
of five players each,
compete with the
primary objective
of shooting a
basketball through the
defender's hoop, while
preventing the opposing
team from shooting
through their own hoop.

3. Basic rules of
Basketball
•Starting Play:
The game begins with a
jump ball at center
court between one
player from each team.

4. Traveling
•A traveling violation
occurs when a player
holding the ball moves
one or both of their
feet illegally.

5. Traveling
•This violation is
committed when a player
takes more than 2
steps or lifts their pivot
foot before releasing the
ball.

6. Pivot Foot:
•When a player
receives the ball while
standing still, one foot
becomes their pivot
foot.
•The player is allowed
to pivot on their pivot
foot but must keep it
planted on the floor.

7. Scoring system
The scoring system
in basketball is
assigned based on
where and how a
basket is made.

8. Two-Point
Field Goal:
When a player
successfully makes a
basket from anywhere
on the court inside the
three-point area, the
team is awarded 2
points.

9. Three-Point
Field Goal:
A basket made
from beyond the
three-point
area earns the
team 3 points.

10. Three-Point
Field Goal:
When a player
successfully makes a
basket from anywhere
on the court inside the
three-point area, the
team is awarded 2
points.

11. Free Throw:
•Free throws are awarded
after certain fouls, such
as shooting fouls or
technical fouls.
•Each successful free
throw is worth 1 point.
•Free throws are taken
from the free-throw line
