This document provides an introduction to algebraic expressions and equations. It defines algebraic expressions as mathematical phrases combining numbers and/or variables using operations, without an equal sign. Algebraic equations are defined as mathematical sentences showing the equality of two expressions, containing an equal sign. Examples of each are provided. The document then presents an activity asking students to identify given representations as algebraic expressions or equations. Answers to the activity are also included. Finally, the document discusses translating between English sentences and mathematical sentences involving variables, providing examples of this translation.
