Alaska Airlines operates five Boeing 737-400 Combi aircraft that provide both passenger and cargo service to isolated communities throughout Alaska. The Combi allows passengers and cargo to be transported together on scheduled "milk run" flights that make multiple stops in small towns. On these flights, passengers include locals traveling between communities as well as fishermen, cargo includes mail and perishable goods like seafood. One Combi flight observed by the author was Flight AS61 from Seattle to Anchorage, with stops in Juneau, Yakutat, Cordova, providing a vital transportation link for the passengers and economies of these isolated towns only accessible by air or water.
