Editor's Notes

  • #3 How many of you are familiar with the work of Dave Brailsford? Dave was passionate about his pursuit of aggregation of marginal gains – this had huge benefits in his quest to achieve the first 2 british winners of the tour de france (bradley wiggins and chirs frome) 3 years ahead of scheulde and multiple successes in the shape of Olympic medals for the British cycling team
  • #5 We’ve connected this with the diversity and inclusion agenda because we see our employer members trying multiple approaches to be more inclusive and we want to challenge whether it is the combination of doing lots of things well over a long period of time that has an impact as opposed to one off campaigns. Dave brailsford started his approach by improving the obvious things like nutrition, weekly training plan and bike ergonomics – you could liken this in inclusion terms to working with a diverse set of universities, capturing data on candidates to inform success of current approaches and having a variety of employee representatives involved with your assessment and marketing activities. But is there a 1% margin of improvement on each of these? We hope that content also inspires new ways of doing thinsg.
  • #6 Those people that are monitoring socio-economic background – for example – have already got an edge over 3 quarters of our members that don’t intend to measure this over the next year – our question is: if you aren’t measuring then how do you know how to set targets for improvement to start making those “gains”
