The Rastafari movement began in Jamaica in the 1930s based on the teachings of Marcus Garvey who predicted a black king would be crowned in Africa. In 1930, Ras Tafari Makonnen was crowned emperor of Ethiopia, taking the name Haile Selassie. Rastafarians regarded Selassie as the messiah and divine king. The movement grew in Jamaica, adopting beliefs like Ital living, the use of marijuana, and wearing dreadlocks. Major figures and events include Selassie's 1966 visit to Jamaica and his overthrow in 1974.
The year 2019 was indeed an eventful and fulfilling one for us. From the establishment of libraries in schools across Nigeria to several activities at our internet learning centre to provision of free internet to library users.

In honor of International #WomensHistoryMonth, ZODML recognizes those powerful Nigerian women throughout history who've made an impact in our society. Who's your role model?
In 2014, ZODML made progress in several areas: 1) It added all of its books to an online catalogue to make its collection searchable worldwide; 2) It received recognition from the Lagos State government for its work in education; 3) It launched a book drive that collected over 5,000 children's books for its library programs. ZODML also strengthened existing library programs, opened new libraries, received large book donations, and supported various educational initiatives throughout the year.
For World Literacy Day 2013, www.ZODML.org chose 10 inspiring books from 10 acclaimed authors around the world.

The ZODML Secondary School Reading Programme aims to encourage Nigerian secondary school students to read regularly and use libraries. Through the "Meet the Author" program, 26 students per month are selected to read a book and meet with the author at the community library. Since launching in 2012 with author J.P. Clark, over 286 students have participated and engaged with 11 authors. The program provides students with a book to read, an interactive session with the author, and a library card to encourage future library use.
Oasis Libraries are run by Zaccheus Onumba Dibiaezue Memorial Libraries (ZODML). ZODML establishes small libraries in Lagos State Local Government primary schools.
The ZODML BookCorner Project's aim is to sustain the interest in reading in local government secondary school students in Nigeria. This presentation talks more about what it is, who is in charge, and the rules.
