The novel No Longer at Ease by Chinua Achebe follows Obi Okonkwo, a Nigerian civil servant who struggles with corruption and identity after returning from studying in Britain. Obi faces temptation to accept bribes in order to meet financial obligations, despite believing education could curb corruption. He also struggles to balance his Western education with Igbo cultural traditions, such as when he wishes to marry a woman deemed unacceptable by his community. Obi ultimately succumbs to corruption and is arrested, showing the difficulty of remaining incorruptible within the system.

The images invaded the living room comfort of millions of people among them Bob Geldof and Midge Ure who eventually organized a Live Aid concert in 1985 to help remove the starving millions out of the horrendous situation.
