Aesculus californica, commonly known as California buckeye, is a species of flowering plant native to western North America. It is a deciduous tree or large shrub growing to 20–30 feet tall with palmately compound leaves up to 12 inches long with 5-7 leaflets. The tree produces clusters of white to pink flowers in spring followed by large, rounded seed pods containing the buckeye seeds which are poisonous if ingested by humans or livestock.
