Temperature Controlled Shipment Management (Cold Chain)
Overview:
During the Global transport of Pharmaceutical drugs and Biologics, the temperature of the product needs
to be maintained within a certain prescribed temperature range in order to ensure product stability. For
this purpose, a temperature controlled supply chain, otherwise known as Cold Chain is implemented in
the global Pharmaceutical distribution. In Cold Chain, the temperature of the product is maintained by
using thermal shipping systems that are designed to withstand a specific thermal load for specific
shipment duration.
The objective of this java based tool, is to develop a user friendly interface for Cold Chain Managers and
Customers that will determine the ambient temperature profile during shipment using timestamps based
on historical weather data and select the appropriate thermal shipping system based on the thermal load.
Description:
Currently the Cold Chain Managers have to manually analyze the historical weather data, for each specific
Pharmaceutical shipment. After matching the temperature profile, the person has to manually find the
appropriate shipping system that can be used for a given Pharmaceutical shipment.
Goals of this Project:
 Enable a user to take shipment orders from the specific Pharmaceutical companies as their
clients.
 Allow the user to select from various Pharmaceutical drugs, such as pre-filled syringes, vials,
capsules and tablets..
 Enable the user to determine actual shipment temperature profile based on Time of the year
using Historical Weather data. A graph of this temperature profile will be populated with
minimum and maximum temperature over a period of 5 years. The average weather on that date,
time and location is considered.
 Propose various Thermal Shipment Systems based on the thermal load during shipment and
allow selection of final product.
 Allow Inventory Management of cold chain part and products.
 Clients (Pharmaceutical Companies) can directly order the shipments online.
Users with Access:
 Cold Chain Managers – for shipment order and selecting specific shipments
 Cold Chain Inventory Department – keep track of product inventory and updates.
 Pharmaceutical Companies (Clients of CCT) can access to online repository and order the
products.
