2. Se usan los adverbios para describir una acción ó para modificar un
adjetivo. Generalmente se añade ‘ly’ a un adjetivo para formar el
adverbio.
Ejemplo:
Quick (rápido) Quickly (rápidamente)
Aunque no todo las palabras que se acaban en ‘ly’ son adverbios.
Ejemplos:
Friendly – simpático
Lonely – solo
Lovely – hermoso
Silly – tonto

3. Cuando se usan para describir una acción generalmente se ponen
después del verbo aunque el orden de las palabras puede variar .
Ejemplo:
He drives quickly. (El conduce rápidamente)
She walks slowly. (Ella anda lentamente)
Cuando se usan para modificar un adjetivo se ponen delante del
adjetivo.
The letter arrived extremely quick.
(La carta llego extremadamente rápido.)

4. Como se forman los adverbios:
• Se añade ‘ly’ a los adjetivos que acaban en una consonante.
[frequent –frequently]
• Se añade ‘ly’ a los adjetivos que acaban en ‘le’.
[possible – possibly]
• Se añade ‘ily’ a los adjetivos que acaban en ‘y’.
[easy – easily]
• Se añade ‘ically’ a los adjetivos que acaban en ‘ic’.
[basic – basically]
• Se añade 'ly' a los adjetivos que acaban en ‘e’.

5. Hay algunos adverbios irregulares:
• Well/bien: He speaks German very well. (El habla Alemán muy bien.)
• Hard/mucho: I studied hard to pass my exams. (Estudie mucho
para aprobar mis exámenes.)
• Fast/rápido: I can run very fast. (Puedo correr muy rápido.)
• Straight/directamente: We went straight to the restaurant.
(Fuimos directamente al restaurante.)
• Hardly/apenas: There were hardly any people at the concert.
(Apenas había gente en el concierto.)

6. El orden de las palabras en frases con adverbios.
Generalmente se ponen después del verbo.
You painted the house very well.
Se pueden poner al principio de una frase para añadir mas énfasis.
Immediately, we realized we were in the wrong place.
Cuando es un adverbio de frecuencia (sometimes, always, never,
etc.) normalmente se ponen delante del verbo.
We usually have coffee at 11 o’clock.

7. Si el verbo tiene mas de una parte como ocurre con los verbos
modales el adverbio se pone entre el verbo modal y el verbo
principal.
I can never remember his name.
Si el adverbio describe un adjetivo o participio se pone delante.
It is extremely hot today.
Se escribe el adverbio ‘hardly’ delante del verbo.
I hardly know him.
