It has two main types of models - document understanding which extracts text from documents like letters, and form processing which extracts structured data from forms. The presentation demonstrated how to set up SharePoint Syntex by configuring it in the admin center and creating a content center to manage models. It also provided examples of using pre-built models and creating custom models for tasks like invoice processing.

 Works best with unstructured documents such as letters or contracts.
 Must have text that can be identified based on phrases or patterns.
 Models are created and managed in SharePoint Site called Content Center.
 On SharePoint Document library the model is associated with Content Type and has columns to store the extracted
information.
 Classifiers are used to identify and classify documents that are uploaded to the document library.
 Extractors pulls information from the documents.

 File limitations
 Uses Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology to scan PDFs, images and Tiff Files.
 Office Files: Truncated at 64,000 characters (in training and when run against files in a document
library).
 OCR-scanned files: 20-page limit.
 Requirements - OCR
 JPG, PNG or PDF (text or scanned). Text-embedded PDFs are better to avoid errors while character
extraction and location.
 Remove Passwords from PDFs that are password-locked.
 Combined file size used for training per collection must not exceed 50 MB and PDF documents
shouldn’t have more than 500 pages.
 For images, dimensions must be between 50 x 50 and 10,000 x 10,000 pixels.
 For PDF files – dimensions must be at most 17 x 17 inches, Legal or A3 paper sizes or smaller.
 Scanned documents should be high quality images.
 Must use the Latin alphabet.

 TIFFs cannot be used for training.

 Supported languages – Only English language invoices from United States. English sales receipts from
Australia, Canada, United States, Great Britain and India are supported.
 Text-embedded PDFs are best to eliminate the possibility of error in character extraction and location.
 For PDF and TIFF, up to 2000 pages can be processed.
 File size must be less than 50 MB.

 Cost of running models
 Running document understanding models is included in the cost of SharePoint Syntex license.
 Form processing models use AI Builder capacity for training and runtime processing.
 For 300 or more SharePoint Syntex licenses for SharePoint Syntex in the organization, 1 million AI
Builder credits are allocated. For less than 300 licenses you must purchase AI Builder Credits in order to
use Forms Processing.
 Few things to note –
 Power Apps license provides AI Builder service credits per month based on licensing Plan.
 As per Major update email from Microsoft Message Center (O365) dated 04/29/2022, Microsoft will be
providing 3500 AI Builder credits per SharePoint Syntex license per month pooled at the tenant level
with maximum allocation of 1M credits per month. Timing of rollout is late May and expected
completion is early June.
