Grundtvig Partnership ECDI – ‘Everyone Can Do It!’
Grundtvig Newsletter - 1
Accentuate has been funded by the EU’s Grundtvig adult education programme to work in
partnership with severn organisations across Europe to examine and develop approaches to gender
equality.
This Partnership project will take place during the period August 2012-July 2014, and involves
institutions from eight European countries.
The goals of this Partnership are to:
- Promote gender equality in the roles played by men and women in public and private life by
emphasizing the importance of autonomy, not being dependent on the traditional gender division of
tasks in private everyday life
- Promote social integration and self-esteem by reinforcing adults’ awareness of their own skills and
potential to be an active part of society
The partnership will achieve the objectives by:
- six project meetings (during project meetings there will be two symposia, workshops, debates, a
dissemination conference, evaluation)
- development of a project website
- a range of learning activities to promote gender equality in economic, social, political and daily life
(workshops, debates, seminars, symposia)
- conducting research on “Women and men–realities of the European present”
- publication of a booklet “We are equal! A guide to good practice on gender equality”.
The partnership will have an impact on adult learners, staff, institutions and local communities.
Adult learners will change their mindsets about traditional stereotypes and prejudices about
women’s and men’s roles in economic, social, public and private life and learn to promote gender
equality both at work and in private life. They will improve their competences in lifelong learning:
communication, digital, social and civic, and intercultural.
The impact will be both on personal development and professional development.
So far there have been 4 project meetings, involving both staff and adult learners from all of the
partner organisations, with the aim of evaluating, co-ordinating and forward planning the work of
the project. These were held at Seville in Spain, at Usak in Turkey, at Vaslui in Romania, and
Tostamaa in Estonia.
There will be two further meetings in Agen, France and at Newcastle upon Tyne in the United
Kingdom, when Accentuate will be the host organisation.
