Absa Home Loans in the Western Cape will no longer accept applications where a related party's income like a brother, fiancé, neighbor, or family friend is used to determine the applicant's affordability or signs as a surety. Only married couples or parents can sign as sureties, as using other relationships raises risks for Absa and violates National Credit Act guidelines.

1. ABSA HOME LOANS WESTERN CAPE ACCEPTABLE SURETIES. Currently applications are being received where the income of the related party (surety) will be used to calculate the affordability of the applicant. This means that the sureties income is being captured in the “other” field. This is no longer acceptable as it raises a risk to Absa and is against NCA guidelines. Applications where brothers / fiancés / neighbours or family friends will sign Surety for the primary applicant will no longer be accepted by the Bank. Only married couples (ANC) or parents of siblings (Mother or Father to Son or Daughter).
