1. Rubén Abimael Guzmán Reynoso was the founder and leader of the Shining Path terrorist organization in Peru. 2. He was born in 1934 in Mollendo, Peru and studied in Arequipa where he formed a group of teachers in 1969 that later became the Shining Path. 3. In 1992, Guzmán was located and arrested by DINCOTE, the Peruvian counterterrorism police, in Lima and sentenced to life in prison for his role as the leader of the terrorist movement.
